It is claimed that you could become a villain or as a hero. The movie’s protagonist Christian Bale has indeed turned villain once again, this time with Marvel in Thor: Love and Thunder. The villain is strong, and the plot stays true to the comic-book plot as well. It also brings back the fan-favorite character, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). It also has the wacky humour so unique to director Taika Waititi. However, Love and Thunder, even though it’s an effective standalone film, does not quite compare to the previous Thor instalment, Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Thor Love and Thunder 1377x Review (2022)
Thor has been a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over 10 years, however his standalone films failed to hit the mark entirely or hit the mark. Thor: The Dark World (2013) was a disappointing entry. Thor: The Origins Story (2011) was a good start. However, Thor: Ragnarok 2017 will be in everyone’s top five MCU films. It was anticipated with high expectations prior to the film’s release due to the returning of the Hemsworth/Taika Warwick collaboration.
If Gorr (Bale) and Bale, who seeks the extinction of gods after being let down by one, decides on attacking New Asgard to steal the Stormbreaker, Thor has to stop the god butcher by forming a team with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who has changed into Mighty Thor. The film is easy and straight-forward, which is quite different from the previous movies. The acting is positively. Hemsworth plays the title character who is in a midlife crisis. However, Bale and Portman are both outstanding. To prove Bale’s ability in the scene before the title credit stands. Gorr could well have been the next Thanos for the MCU that’s in desperate need of good supervillains and Bale adds a touch of strangeness to the character but there’s not a much more.
On the other hand, Portman, who makes her return to the Marvel world after having been absent from the previous two Thor films, will play the cancer-stricken ex-girlfriend who was chosen by Mjolnir. Since Marvel seems to be keen on handing over the roles of Hawkeye and in a few months, Hulk, to women characters, I was expecting the Mighty Thor to be a similar checkmark on the list of representation. The film tells a heartwarming tale of an astrophysicist who is able to show her biceps throughout more scenes than one.
Marvel is known for its own flexing, too, through all the cameos in this film. In addition to the whole Guardians of the Galaxy team there are Matt Damon, Sam Neill and Luke Hemsworth reprising their roles from Thor: Ragnarok as Loki, Odin, and Thor respectively. Additionally, we see Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone playing Hela and the director of an Asgardian play as well as the director of an Asgardian play. Waititi, who has since Ragnarok directed Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit, is back in his preferred genre. There are some hilarious concepts like a pair of noisy goats Korg’s narration of Thor’s backstory Thor doing leg-splits, Valkyrie becoming the ambassador for Old Spice…
There’s also a running gag of Thor trying to find his Mjolnir and being afraid of Stormbreaker’s jealousy. These gags work, but they’re also a source of deep emotion. They also expose the thin plot. Thor: Love and Thunder tackles various types of affection, from father-daughter relationships to complex romances between discordant lovers… There is the possibility of Gorr losing his respect towards Rapu and Thor becoming disillusioned of Zeus (played here by Russell Crowe). The possibilities are endless but…
As usual, there are numerous Easter eggs and even references to films like Interstellar and Harry Potter. We are shown a picture of the god that died, Falligar, taken straight out of comics. We see Hemsworth wearing the original Thor costumes comic-book readers will recognize. When Thor is seen in a fight with Zeus Then we observe a tattoo which reads “RIP Loki as well as the trickster’s helmet etched on Thor’s back. Then we are introduced to the dark Necrosword and also given the fact that Mjolnir and Stormbreaker appear to have an independent mind, it’s interesting to see more weapons being revealed to have the ability to manipulate people.
What we saw with Shang Chi’s 10 rings in Ms. Marvel’s mysterious Bangle, and the Ebony blade during the Eternals post-credits scene. The phrase “Gods do not empower you however, they will utilize you” from Marvel’s newest show, Moonknight, feels very similar to the real world. The loss of Valkyrie in war to her greatest friend as well as Korg getting married to another Kronan man is included.
The first half of the film reminds us of the vivid colors we enjoyed in Ragnarok The majority of the second half is in the dark world, where everything is predominantly black and white. The action scenes that are monochrome are quite enjoyable but it is imperative to remember.
Hemsworth continues to be Thor Hemsworth will continue to play Thor, which is a relief for MCU fans who’ve witnessed the original Avengers die or hang their heads.
